How we handle donations

Money given for kindness should be accounted for carefully. This is how gifts reach the people they were meant for, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Where your gift goes

When you give to a named campaign or event, that is what it funds. If you give to the general fund, it goes wherever the need is most urgent that week — a hospital Shabbat box, a family who cannot make rent, a delivery someone has to make tonight.

Every gift is recorded against the cause it was given to, and the totals shown on each campaign and event page are added up from those records. Nothing on this site is a number somebody typed in by hand.

When a cause raises more than it needs

It happens, and it is a good problem. Anything over what a campaign needed goes to the closest equivalent need — another family in the same situation, the next round of the same programme. If you would rather it went somewhere specific, say so when you give and we will honour it.

Receipts

All Things Chessed Inc is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, EIN 41-4446398. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

A receipt is emailed once the gift is confirmed — not when you tell us it is coming. For Zelle, Venmo and cheques that means once we can see the payment arrived, which is usually within a day or two. For card payments it is immediate. Gifts of $250 or more carry the written acknowledgement the IRS requires.

If you sponsored something and received goods in return, the receipt shows the value of those goods and the deductible remainder separately, as it must.

Lost your receipt, or never got one? Email Hello@AllThingsChessed.org and we will resend it.

Refunds and mistakes

Typed an extra zero? Gave twice by accident? Meant to give to a different cause? Write to us within 30 days and we will put it right — refund it, or move it to where you intended. We would much rather do that than keep money someone did not mean to send.

After a gift has already been spent on the thing it was raised for, a refund may not be possible, but tell us anyway and we will do what we can.

Recurring gifts

Where a recurring gift is set up, you can stop it at any time by writing to us, and it stops from that moment. We will never make you go through several steps or speak to anyone to cancel.

Anonymity

Choosing to give anonymously means your name appears nowhere on the site, in no list of donors and in no thank-you. We still hold your details internally, because a receipt has to go somewhere and the books have to balance.

What we will not do

  • We will not sell, rent or share our donor list.
  • We will not pressure anyone, or send a stream of appeals after a single gift.
  • We will not name a donor who asked not to be named, in any context.
  • We will not accept a gift we believe someone cannot afford to give.

Questions about a specific gift

Email Hello@AllThingsChessed.org with the date and amount and we will find it. A real person reads that address.
